Object of the Game
The game of cribbage is played generally between two people but can be played up to 4. The object of the game is to be the first player to reach 121 points.
To accumulate this many points, there are a number of things you can do. You can score points in the play of the game, as well as automatically scoring points with your hand during your turn to count your hand.
Points
You earn points in Cribbage by making 15 directly, or by pairs, three of a kind, four of a kind, and runs and combinations of runs. There are also a number of different points that can be earned during the play of the game as well.
How to Play
The dealer deals 6 cards to both players. Then each player chooses two cards to discard into the Crib which goes to the dealer at the time. After choosing cards that may or may not be beneficial to the player, the play of the game starts.
During the game, the count of the game continues until it reaches 31, when reached, the count resets to zero and play continues. After each player has played all of their cards in their hands, then it is time to start counting the hands.
The Count
The first player to count is called the pone, this is the player that is not the dealer. He counts his hand using the starter card on the deck to make combinations and 15s. After he has counted, next it is the dealers turn. The dealer counts his hand using the starter card as well, and then in turn counts the Crib with the starter card too.
The game continues with the deal changing players until either player has accumulated 121 points and that is the end of the game.
