Supporters of a casino at Monticello Raceway have called Governor Pataki to examine and approve their proposal. Their application needs Patakis signature to be approved. Some months ago, a spokesman for Pataki said that the governor was waiting for the applicants to find a site for the casino.
The supporters of a Catskills casino are the Mohawks and some Sullivan County residents and officials. The tribe had another proposal for a casino in the Catskills on the table but they rejected it. The federal Bureau of Indian Affairs received a letter of theirs saying that they were going to support the proposal of the Monticello project.
Barbara Lazore and Lorraine White, Mohawk Tribal Chiefs, called Pataki in what they think it is the last step to approve their casino proposal.
