Lawmakers are planning to restrict off reservation tribal casinos. House Resources Committee Chairman Richard Pombo, R-Calif., and Senate Indian Affairs Committee Chairman John McCain, R-Ariz. Bills prepared bills that would change the law that allows Indian tribes to build casinos in different locations rather than in their reservations.
The bills would also restrict the conditions under which tribes that do not have reservation land would be allowed to build casinos. Pombo said he intends to deal with the problem of tribal casinos that expend their territories.
Most of the tribal casinos are located on reservation lands. The more than 400 casinos had 18.5 billion dollars revenue in 2004. Since the tribal casino growth, Indian tribes have been seeking for better locations for their casinos.
