After a small fire in Crown Casino, in Melbourne, nine people, who were part of the staff, were taken to hospital and treated for smoke inhalation. None of them suffered from serious injuries, and they just displayed symptoms such as shortness of breath or headaches, possibly due to the inhalation of smoke and the shock. All nine were taken to the Alfred and Royal Melbourne hospitals for further treatment.
Liana Cross, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Fire Brigade, said that no clients were affected by the fire and that the nine people taken to hospital were staff. She said that the building was evacuated quickly and effectively thanks to the collaboration of the casino staff and management, who immediately followed firefighters advice.
Gary ONeil, spokesman for Casino Crown, said that the fire originated in a TV monitor at the back of the casino, in a building called the Galactic Circus.
