Head government lawmaker informed the public about a new law concerning illegal gambling. According to the new law, people who will be convicted for participating in any illegal gambling activity would not be able to avail on probation.
Chief city prosecutor Raul Bendigo talked to the Mindanao Times about the new law. President Gloria Arroyo signed the illegal gambling law on April 2004. According to the new law, people who were convicted in illegal gambling will not be able to avail for probation, even if they pleaded guilty.
Bendigo said that the idea of the law was to warn people from engaging in any illegal gambling activity. In the past, convicted people were only penalized with P1,000. With the new law, convicted illegal gamblers can go to jail having the right to avail probation.
