A second lawsuit was filed against the Seneca Indian casino plan in Buffalo. The lawsuit was filed by a group called Citizens for a Better Buffalo. The state Supreme Court lawsuit names Gov. George Pataki, state gaming officials and Buffalo officials.
The Buffalo residents in the closet neighborhood to the casino site filed the suit claiming the casino would increase the crime, traffic and pollution in the area. In addition, they claimed that architectural and historic structures will be damaged due to the casino building. Some of the group members were involved in a former federal lawsuit against U.S. Interior Secretary.
The former federal lawsuit named U.S. Interior Secretary Gale Norton and other Interior Department and National Indian Gaming Commission officials. The new lawsuit claims breach of state and local laws that requires consultations with preservation officials on projects that might damage an area with historic structures.
