Washington legislative committee approved a suggested raising gambling age bill. The bill does not include the Washington State Lottery. According to the new bill, 18 years old can still place bets in the Washington State Lottery.
Lottery representatives appeared before Washington lawmakers at a public hearing. They claimed that raising the legal gambling age would cause them to lose thousands of dollars.
According to News4, Washington State Lottery developed a marketing strategy designated to the young adult market, meaning young people between the ages of 18 and 24. Lottery Spokeswoman Jacque Coe said that the plan was created several years ago, under a different director. Still, she did not agree to deny that today Lottery intends to expand its market to young adults.
